The Poorhouse Story is a website that educates researchers on this
little-known, little-used resource. Linda Crannell, its coordinator,
displays information (as much as she knows and has gathered) across the United
States, state by state. For Washington County, however, she's abstracted a
volume of records from 1875-1900 and published them in a book titled,
"Portraits of Poverty: History and Abstracts of Inmate Registration
Certificates from Washington County, New Yorik." There is a full name
index at her site. You many find more details by accessing the Washington
Co., NY page at www.PoorHouseSstory.com.
Her email address is: phlady@jump.net.
