1850 - 1859. Solon Massey, newspaper reporter |
| This treasure trove of information will
delight any who find their kindred surnames within its pages. The
author wrote about people and places he personally knew (or gleaned from
others with first-hand knowledge) dating back to the earliest history of
Jefferson County (circa 1795). Solon Massey's articles, published in The
Watertown Daily Times from 1850--1859 are warm and witty.
Speaking of the Black River, he wrote on p.3: "The present generation can
hardly imagine the wild and romantic views afforded in such constantly
varying succession, as the visitor caught occasional glimpses of its
boiling waters as they rushed beyond the point of observation."

| These articles were compiled and
published in a book, which I purchased at Jefferson County Historical
Museum in Watertown, NY at 228 Washington St. Watertown, NY
