The Dean current with the publication of this compilation writes of it:
"This General Roll attempts the total record of all members of the College. Be it remembered that the word 'Alumnus' is larger than the word 'graduate' and includes all 'nurslings' of the College - every enrolled pupil... It has been a slow and complicated task to assemble such facts."

"Such facts" included not only when the pupil attended and place of residence; and his membership in what college society. Some data of later in life is given, specifically what his profession was, where he lived in 1908 or if deceased, the year of his death.
