Richard W. Hungerford, Jr., compiler The New York Reformer was published in Watertown, Jefferson County. It covered an eight county-wide area: Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego and St. Lawrence. This volume is a companion to the similarly titled, Marriages in the New York Reformer, 1850-1861. Its extracted records are invaluable in a state whose official vital records did not begin until the early 1880's. Newspapers are generally not extracted due to the laboriousness in handling hard-to-read newspapers on microfilm. Sensational Stories in the New York Reformer, 1850-1861 is the third volume in the compiler's first series. 235 pps., 8.5" x 11." Soft-cover, coil bound, indexed. |
